Menno makes games that empowers players to create their own game. His PhD research on autonomous play and emergent gameplay in educational settings brought forward a design approach that leverages the creativity and social skills of players.
As designer at Lapp, he creates games that brings people together. This social bonding quality transcends the boundaries of the game, when Menno organizes events such as the Games [4Diversity] Jams, the monthly incubation Day at Dutch Game Garden and the annual mixer Dutch Courage.

How can a game ease the conversation about sexual abuse? In this case study of VilDu?!, Menno describes how a rather personal design experience led to a playful tool for therapy. He presents this design process and tells how the game declined the therapy duration of an eight year old girl by three weeks.
