Christian Blaze was born in San Salvador, El Salvador, Central America, in 1979. His family fled to Canada in 1986 during the Salvadoran civil war, where Christian spent his childhood as a prodigy studying computers & electronics. He created his first software program at age 9, and sold his first program commercially by age 14, before moving back to El Salvador for high school in the mid 90’s. In 1999, after studying at the University of Central America (UCA), Christian returned to Vancouver to start his acting career at The Gastown Actors Studio. After graduating in 2001, Christian met his wife & co-producer Crystal-Dawn on the set of a Vancouver Film School student film.
In 2003, Christian starred in the couple’s directorial debut “SPANK”. The short film went on to premiere at the 2003 Santa Fe Film Festival (USA), and screened at over 20 festivals. The film was licensed to the Canadian Broadcast Corp. (CBC) and aired across Canada in 2005. Christian co-founded their new media company, Crystal Insight, in 2004, and began production on their first feature, “Alien Agenda: Project Grey”. The film acquired initial DVD distribution in Asia, Russia and the USA in 2007, while the director’s cut of “Project Grey” was released at the 6th annual Int. Sci-Fi & Fantasy Film Fest in Athens, Greece in 2011.
In 2012, Christian joined Gloo Studios, embarking on his VFX career with early credits including; episodes of “Edge of War” (Military Ch.) and “The Incredible Crew” (Cartoon Network), and several CollegeHumor viral shorts such as “Batman vs. Scarecrow”, “John Mayer’s Hologram” and “Sherlock Blue’s Clues”.
By late 2012, Christian moved into VFX Supervision at GFZ Studios, where he supervised a team of VFX artists on several films including; Hallmark Channel’s “A Bride for Christmas”, Carl Bessai’s remake of “Embrace of the Vampire”, David Rosenthal’s thriller “A Single Shot” starring Sam Rockwell, and the Chinese feature “Switch” starring Andy Lau. Other VFX career highlights include; developing the pipeline and VFX / editing process for 180 degree flying theatres, editing and VFX Supervising the 4D attraction “FlyOver Canada” and VFX compositing on Warner Bros. hit TV series “Supernatural” for 23 episodes.
In 2014 Christian co-created the TV series “Death Row Democracy”, and in late 2014, Crystal Insight produced a series of 12 commercial spots promoting the M8 and Desire Eye mobile devices for Taiwanese tech company HTC. Christian starred in 2 out of the 12 commercials alongside his 8 month old daughter, in addition to co-directing, editing and producing this commercial series, which also featured the family’s cat, in the US national spot “Split Capture Cat” for AT&T.
As CEO and CTO of Crystal Insight, Christian has been busy developing AURORA, a blockchain powered royalty payment system for the film industry. A prototype of the system was successfully launched on Dec 21st, 2015 with the release of the intro for “Death Row Democracy”. Christian is fluent in both English & Spanish, in addition to several programming languages, and resides in Vancouver, Canada.
