Adam van Heerden is a design researcher currently doing his PhD at Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands. His research looks at the potential for playful and interactive platform technologies to empower marginal voices in citymaking processes. With a Masters degree in Urban Planning from the University of Cape Town, he’s interested in co-designing civic media for participatory citymaking, and the empowering potential that this process holds for participants.
In this panel from the BIG Ideas For City project, Adam van Heerden (HOL) will address the potential of games to promote social engagement, advocacy, and the exercise of citizenship, considering the use of playful interactions that lead participants to collaborative action and definitions of agendas, as well as exerting interpersonal influences during the process.
